I often hear “Oh when I’m in a better place in life I’ll have time to heal"

And to that I say, I didn’t start practicing Revolutionary Somatics because I felt well lol. I started because everything else wasn’t working.

My Story….

I was recently divorced, team “no days off” overachieving & AuDHD burnout’ing my way through a career as a professional performance artist, in no way had a grip on my substance use & escapism, and was trying to unpack a lifetime of gender & dominant culture conditioning in my “spare” (lol) time.

The pandemic induced a deeply needed karmic life reset and put me on a path of having to take the space to actually slow down for once. The space that opened up when I began to deeply listen to the wisdom of my body, nervous system & emotions, naturally helped me detangle my internal patriarchal conditioning, and I set myself up with consistent, somatic practices & patterns that supported & aimed me my healing goals and life values.

Finding the right, non-clinical, non-institutional, radical and counter-oppressive approaches that were already in Right Relationship with the spiritual & political values I held for my community & world ensured that the transformative modalities I learned and now guide align with Collective Sovereignty.

Photo of Deanna dressed as a clown with a green sequin skirt, fishnets, red hair in an updo and are holding a white sign with red lettering that says “no free strips” in front of a red theatre curtain.

I didn’t know it at the time, but I actually started my somatic career as a subversive performance artist & teacher.

The institutionalized norms I grew up around never set right with me and the radicalizing I experienced guiding countless others for a decade to create their own art, stories & movement via an art form with roots in political satire, gender & sexual liberation, body autonomy & positivity made me the type of somatic guide ready to buck those patriarchal norms right out of the Collective Nervous System.

And if you’re here, it’s because you’re ready to buck these norms out of your nervous system & life too. Let me show you how...

The Sovereign Somatics Difference:

The Revolutionary Somatics I offer are a weaving of body & sense based exploratory movement & nervous system practices, Radical Dharma teachings, revolutionary astrology and systems change that interconnect at the three levels of healing:

White icon of a person with a heart in the middle, dotted circle around their whole body and wine color background

Healing at the Personal

Composting the intergenerational trauma & patriarchal psychological warfare that has us abandoning our own bodies, hearts & minds.

White icon of two hands holding in the shape of a heart on a wine color background

Healing at the Relational

Re-pairing our connection to others & community by moving healing beyond the conceptual and into real relationship praxis.

White icon of a globe being held by two hands on a wine color background

Healing at the systemic

De-siloing dominant cultures’ isolation tactics by making Collective Resilience part of our lifelong healing toolkit.

What folks are saying about my guidance:

“The welcome into the space immediately made me feel comfortable and safe to exist in any way I needed to.”

Ciara

"Being able to give my soma a seat in my present moments and listening to the signals I can use in real-time for determining what actions I need to take (or not take) has been the most beneficial."

Andrew

"The most beneficial thing I’ve learned so far has been not trying to fix. Creating a container that provides somatic safety to sit through difficult emotions and not seeking an exit from them has been a HUGE up-level for my practice."

Kate

"I have learned to use my breath and other senses to regulate my nervous system throughout the day which allows me to not burnout or use up all my energy with social interactions. At my job as physical therapist, I am open and receptive to my patients' concerns but do not take them on as my own. In personal life, I have more acceptance, humility, and ease...I don't have to have all the answers."

FAQ:

🤲🏻 What exactly is somatics?

Somatics means more than just “a body based practice,” it is a field of relation involving the 5-senses, felt-sensations, emotions, thoughts, narratives, relationships with others, external conditions, actions & non actions, your historical timeline and our historical timeline.

What it is exactly is a collection of practices that invites us into relation & context with our body & lived experience. Or metaphorically, our body & nervous system’s own “GPS.”

I also utilize the definition developed by Politicized Somatics founder Staci Haines: "Somatics is a practicable theory of change that can move us toward individual, community, and collective liberation."
